Chester FC Community Trust has received a Magic Little Grant of £500 from Localgiving and Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The funding boost will enable the Community Trust to develop its walking football programme. Walking football is a slow-paced version of the beautiful game initially designed for the over 50s, helping to increase physical activity and offering a route back into playing football for those who had to stop due to injuries.

The Community Trust runs two sessions each week on Monday evenings from 5pm to 6pm at Blacon High School and Wednesday afternoons from 12pm to 1pm at Goals Soccer Centre. New players of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend and can register here.

Jim Green, CEO of the Community Trust, said: “We are very grateful to Localgiving, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust and the players of People’s Postcode Lottery for this Magic Little Grant.

“The grant will help us grow our walking football programme and engage new players in the sessions. Walking football is a brilliant way for people who may have stopped playing to return to the game and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits that sport provides.”

Localgiving is the UK’s leading membership and support network for local charities and community groups.

Chester FC Walking Football returns this week with sessions now held on Wednesdays at Goals Soccer Centre.

Following current Government and FA guidelines, Chester FC Community Trust is excited to resume its weekly sessions and welcomes new players.

Walking football is a slower paced version of the game, offering a great way to exercise, meet new people and continue or return to playing the sport.

Sessions will take place every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm at Goals Soccer Centre off Bumpers Lane. The change of venue follows confirmation from Blacon High School that, following advice, it will not be a position to hire out the 3G pitch until October half-term at the earliest.

The price to attend is £4 per week but for new players the first session is free so it costs nothing to give it a go.

All ages and abilities are welcome but players must register in advance here.

Chester FC Community Trust is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of everyone who attends our sessions.

All activities will be planned and delivered in line with the latest Government and FA guidance with additional measures and procedures in place for your safety. This includes collecting and storing the names and contact information of participants for NHS Test and Trace purposes.

Walking football continues to grow in popularity and now women in Chester have the opportunity to take up the sport.

Chester FC Community Trust is starting weekly Women’s Walking Football sessions for players of all ages and abilities.

Walking football is a slow-paced version of the beautiful game initially designed for the over 50s, helping to keep people active and offering a route back into playing football for those who had to stop due to injuries.

As the game suggests there is no running allowed and the game is non-contact, providing a fantastic medium for regular exercise and socialising in a fun and relaxed environment. Each session will include a warm-up, football activities such as passing and receiving and games.

Women’s Walking Football sessions will take place on Wednesdays between 11am and 12 noon at Goals Soccer Centre, Talbot Way, Chester CH1 4LT. The first session is on Wednesday 19th July and the cost is just £3 per session.

Ben Richards, community coach for Chester FC Community Trust, said: “Walking football is for everyone, regardless of age, health and ability, but the opportunities for women in Cheshire West who want to play have been limited.

“The game is a fantastic for maintaining and improving health and fitness, as well as being a lot of fun and a great way of making new friends.

“Women’s Walking Football will provide participants with regular opportunities to play football and exercise without apprehension and at their own pace.

“We have been running men’s sessions for a couple of years and these are really popular so we’re hoping the female version can take off in a similar way.”

Chester FC’s Walking Football squad are welcoming new players ahead of their Cheshire Walking Football League campaign.

The league was developed to give walking football players opportunities to compete with fixtures taking place at Cheshire FA headquarters in Northwich on a 3G pitch.

The Blues will face teams from across Cheshire and bordering counties on October 13th, November 10th and December 8th. The league runs on Thursday afternoons from 12 noon until 3pm.

Chester FC Community Trust run structured walking football sessions on Monday evenings from 5pm until 6pm at Goals Soccer Centre for men and women of all ages and abilities, although players must be aged over 50 to take part in league fixtures.

The sessions cost just £3 per week and there’s no need to book, simply turn up and play.

Jim Green, chief executive of Chester FC Community Trust, said: “Walking football continues to grow in popularity and it’s proven to be a fantastic means of helping people to keep active, make new friends and stay fit and healthy.

“Our coaches run weekly walking football sessions where everyone is welcome to give the game a go and the league provides a fantastic opportunity for players over 50 to represent Chester FC on a regular basis.”

Walking football is a slow-paced version of the beautiful game aimed at men and women over 50 to increase health and well-being in a fun, safe and sociable environment.

The rules are much the same as the traditional game, however it is minimal contact and running is penalised with a free-kick awarded to the opposition. Squads are smaller, free kicks are indirect, kick-ins replace throws, there are no offsides and the ball must be kept below head height.
