Chester Supporters FC raised £200 for City Fans United after a thrilling match with a Chester FC Staff side.
The staff team eventually came out on top, winning 5-3 in an end to end encounter at the University of Chester’s Parkgate Road campus, which was sponsored by Sugarman Health & Wellbeing.
Ben Usher fired the supporters into the lead inside the opening two minutes with a smart finish but the supporters hit back when Scott Hoather, a coach for Chester FC Community Trust and the Academy’s head of foundation phase, levelled with a deflected free-kick.
The staff continued to press and went ahead with an own goal, however the supporters ended the first-half strongly and missed a penalty before Michael Field equalised with a header to make it 2-2 at the turnaround.
Academy head coach Calum McIntyre spurned a golden chance to restore the staff team’s lead early in the second period but soon made amends as he hammered home to restore the advantage.
Another academy coach extended the lead to 4-2 as Martin ‘Charlie’ Farley swept in a delightful strike from distance and when Matty Thomson, making a guest appearance along with fellow youth teamer Danny Hardman, cracked in a fifth goal, the staff were in command.
The supporters rallied late on and Matty Dixon pulled a goal back but it was the staff who were celebrating as the full-time whistle sounded to mark the end of a good natured and competitive fixture.
