Women’s walking football team shine at 7th Annual Dick, Kerr Ladies Tournament

Chester FC’s Women’s Walking Football team enjoyed a memorable day at the 7th Annual Dick, Kerr Ladies Walking Football Tournament, producing an excellent performance to finish as runners up in the Shield competition!

Having only played their first games in February this year, the Seals were the least experienced team in the tournament, but demonstrated the tremendous progress they have made in a short period of time, more than holding their own against seasoned opponents.

Hosted at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, the annual tournament honours the Dick, Kerr Ladies Football Team, one of the earliest known women’s teams, who won 682 of their 755 games from from 1917 to 1965.

Chester FC Community Trust launched its Women’s Walking Football sessions last summer, and they have proven to be a great success, with many new friendships formed.

Walking football is a fun, social version of the game, played at a slower pace with no running and minimal contact, making it ideal for older players, as well as those who want to return to the game or looking to play for the first time.

Our women’s sessions currently take place on Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm at Goals Soccer Centre and new players of all ages and experience levels are always welcome.
