Enabling works have commenced at the site of the new £1.8 million community sports hub in Blacon in preparation for the construction of the 3G pitch and clubhouse.
Contractors appointed to deliver the project will be undertaking site clearance, excavation and groundworks, and security fencing has been erected around the perimeter for safety.
The exciting project is due for completion this winter and will provide state-of-the-art sport and community facilities for local clubs, leagues and groups, as well as becoming the home of Chester FC Community Trust.
Jim Green, CEO of the Community Trust, said: “It’s exciting to see the start of enabling works and a step closer to this brilliant new facility for Chester.
“It is a prominent site in Blacon and we are keen to ensure we keep the local community updated as the scheme progresses.
“Once complete, this facility will be a real asset the area and the wider community, creating a wealth of new opportunities for people of all ages to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing.”
Working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, the Community Trust has secured a £1m grant from from the Premier League, The FA and Football Foundation, and £520,000 over five years from the Duke of Westminster’s Westminster Foundation, with additional funding from the Council, Avenue Services and Ursula Keyes Trust.
The second phase of King George V Community Sports Hub will see the existing grass pitches benefit from a programme of improvements and refurbishment of the existing pavilion.
The Community Trust is continuing to raise funds for phase two and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/campaign/kgvsportshub.
