Give Up Loving Pop helping children make healthier choices

Chester FC Community Trust have teamed up with Cheshire West and Chester Council to encourage children to cut back on sugary drinks in favour of healthier options.

Pupils at Brookside Primary School and The Acorns Primary School in Ellesmere Port, and St Theresa’s Catholic Primary School in Blacon, have all completed the Give Up Loving Pop (GULP) programme, with more schools signed up to take part in the coming months.

GULP has been created to help children understand the health harms of overconsumption of sugary drinks, not only for the impact it can have on their teeth, but also the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

The programme provides children with the information and tools to make healthier choices, challenging them to swap their favourite sugary drinks for water, milk and other less sugary drinks.

GULP is available to schools to access free of charge during the 2025/26 academic year. The programme is delivered over four weeks, with each session combining a workshop on oral health with fun sport and physical activity sessions.
